about

The Book Club UK is a band that Norah Utley (Headache City, Shit Sandwich Records, Sheriff Peanut), with whom Mark is in a book club, imagined and suggested they start together. As of yet, the band has not come to fruition, but Mark wrote and recorded this set of demos in preparation for the day The Book Club UK materializes, should it ever.

Spare Machine started as a vehicle for Mark's songs that were not being used by his band, the Lesser Birds of Paradise. Likewise, The Book Club UK songs appear in this collection under the Spare Machine moniker (for now).

A note on the name: The Book Club UK was originally supposed to be called Book Club, but there is already an operating band with that name. It was revised to The Book Club, but, as it turns out, there is also already another "actual" band called The Book Club.

The Book Club UK is from Illinois and is not to be confused with The Book Club, who are from the United Kingdom.
